An investigation targeting online child predators has culminated in the arrest of twenty people, 19 of which live in San Diego County.
The investigation targeted people wanted for possessing and/or distributing sexually explicit or pornographic images of minors. According to U.S. Attorney Karen P. Hewitt, the images depicted minors being sexually abused and victimized.
The investigation was a joint effort of several law enforcement agencies, including San Diego's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, the FBI, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
Those arrested stand to face serious penalties if the charges result in conviction, such as 37 months to 15 years in prison and registration as a sex offender, possibly for life.
