Man Accused of Assaulting Coach After Game
After assaulting a rival coach after a game on Saturday, Saivaali "Coach Sa" Savaiinea, 32, faces serious lifetime penalties.
Police arrested Coach Sa last week for felony battery after he kicked and punched opposing coach Mark Cannon after a game at Lincoln High School. The coach for the Eastlake Panthers tripped and fell, hitting his head on the pavement, which caused him to lose consciousness briefly.
Coach Sa told police that he believed Cannon was at the game trying to recruit one of his best players. This led him to start a verbal argument with Cannon, which quickly escalated into assault. The player in question, an 11-year-old student, tried to stop the fight himself to no avail.
As a result of his actions, the coach has been suspended and could be barred from coaching youth sports from now on.
