Sobriety Checkpoints Yield 31 Arrests
Sobriety checkpoints in Pacific Beach and Vista netted 31 arrests and impounded 70 vehicles last weekend.
Deputies with the San Diego Sheriff's department and San Diego police worked together to check a total of 1037 drivers that went through the Vista checkpoint. At this location, seven drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In addition, 47 citations were issued for violations including driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana and driving without a license. A total of 41 drivers were found to be unlicensed, were driving on suspension, forcing police to place them under arrest.
The Pacific Beach checkpoint, located on Grand Avenue, had a total of 725 vehicles go through for screening. At the end of the night, 25 drivers were arrested for DUI, one arrest was made for possession of a controlled substance and another for public intoxication. Officers impounded 29 vehicles in all.
