California Highway Patrol Reports Increase in 4th of July DUI Arrests
Even though people know just how dangerous drinking and driving can be, it didn't seem to stop some drivers this past Fourth of July weekend.
The California Highway Patrol reported an increase in DUI arrests and DUI crash fatalities over the three-day weekend in San Diego, as well as many other parts of California. Last year just one driver was killed over the holiday weekend. This year, the CHP reported five fatalities due to intoxicated driving.
In San Diego County alone law enforcement officials took 106 individuals into custody for DUI, which is an increase from 92 arrests in 2010. The state has experienced a dramatic increase in DUI arrests overall this year, up 17.2% from last year.
