Verdict Announced in Brutal Sexual Assault and Murder Case
The family of Dane Williams was relieved to hear a guilty verdict in the case of their murdered 23-year-old son.
After hearing testimony from both sides regarding the brutal sexual assault and murder of Williams, the jury took just three hours to convict 40-year-old Philong Huynh. The attack happened in January 2008 when Williams was leaving a bar in the Gaslamp District in San Diego. When police discovered his body three days later, it had been wrapped in a bloody blanket in a back alley. DNA testing later linked Huynh to the murder.
Since police learned that Huynh was a third-year medical student, they were able to deduce that he had slipped Williams some Diazepam, a depressant of the central nervous system, which made Williams physically incapable of fighting off his attacker.
He was also charged with oral copulation and sodomy of an intoxicated person when a Navy Corpsman came forward in 2009 to report the assault.
