Checkpoint Nets 11 DUI Arrests
A recent checkpoint in San Diego netted 11 arrests for drunk driving and other driving offenses.
According to police records the checkpoint, held on May 13, one person was arrested for DUI. In addition, seven more people were held for sobriety evaluations. More than 200 vehicles were screened at this one checkpoint throughout the night. At the same time, police were conducting saturation patrols in Pacific and Ocean beaches, where 10 more people were brought in for DUI. One of these drivers was also charged with hit and run and felony evading an officer.
The San Diego Police Department is able to conduct regular sobriety checkpoints thanks to funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Together the agencies hope to raise public awareness about drunken driving.
