Methamphetamine Usage Drops in San Diego County
Officials in San Diego County are happy to report that methamphetamine use dropped significantly between 2005 and 2009.
A report issued by the Methamphetamine Task Force showed several important items. Meth-related deaths dropped almost half during that time, by 43 percent overall. Hospital admissions for meth overdose dropped 17 percent as well.
Adults charged with meth use dropped 41 percent and arrests for possession and sale of meth also dropped, by more than half of the previous amount. Yet, even though significant improvements have been observed in the area, 138 people died from meth in 2009, and 28 percent of adults arrested during that year tested positive for the drug.
