Officer Accused of Raping Prostitute
Just one day after the San Diego police chief held a conference stating the department's intolerance to any officer-related misconduct, a police officer was arrested forraping a prostitute.
According to police reports Daniel Dana, 26, was taken into custody on suspicion of oral copulation under threat of authority, assault by a public officer, suspicion of kidnapping and rape under threat of authority. Dana is currently being held without bail. Just a day later, the department issued a statement that Dana was no longer employed there; it was unclear as to whether he had resigned or been fired.
The arrest came after a woman reported that Officer Dana had forced her to have sex with him while on duty. This came as a surprise to some in the department who said that Dana had "relatively good" performance appraisals, and no former complaints had been lodged against him. At the time of his arrest, he was working as a patrol officer in the Hillcrest area.
