Trolley Foils Capture of Theft Crime Suspect
A trolley nearly foiled capture of a bank robbery suspect last week in La Mesa.
According to police reports, the Pacific Western Bank on La Mesa Boulevard was robbed around 11:15 a.m. The suspect handed a note to the teller demanding money. He was able to get away with several thousand dollars stuffed into his backpack before running to La Mesa trolley station. He was apprehended by Sgt. Pete Anderson from the opposite side of the tracks. He aimed his gun at the suspect and ordered him to lay down on the ground.
However, a trolley rolled by at that moment, allowing the suspect to get up and run away. Luckily additional officers had responded to the incident and were able to quickly catch up with him.
His identity was later released as 22-year-old Douglas Miller of San Diego. He is now being held on suspicion of robbery and theft crimes.
