San Diego Police Delve into Book Theft Ring
It is one thing to rack up library fines; it is quite another to steal thousands of books.
According to police in San Diego, California, a 44-year-old woman was found to be in possession of over 2,000 DVDs and books at her home. Several libraries were hit by the female thief who, based on a quick review of her "collection", seemed to be fond of crafts, cooking and animal books.
When officers were tipped off to her identity, they were able to obtain a search warrant for her home. Even though they suspected her of the theft crimes, they had no idea just how extensive the offenses were.
Now, officers believe that others might be involved in a book theft ring. However, other suspects have yet to be identified or charged. If the woman is found to be guilty of all the crimes against her, she could be facing serious jail time as well as fines.
